Free Online Image Brightener

Make subjects and details easier to see in photos taken in low light. This free Image Brightener lets you adjust the effect with one slider and download a full-resolution PNG, JPG or WebP. No account is needed.

To brighten dark photos, upload your picture, click Brighten Image, and compare the result with the original. If it looks too bright or you want to keep a night scene's mood, lower the strength and process it again.

How to brighten an image online

1

Upload the photo you want to brighten

Choose one JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP or TIFF, up to 20 MiB. Upload begins when selected; wait until it finishes.

2

Set the brightening strength and format

Set strength from 0 to 100; the Image Brightener starts at 100. Select PNG, JPG or WebP, with optional quality choices for JPG and WebP.

3

Click Brighten Image and download

Click Brighten Image, wait for the result, and inspect faces, lettering and bright backgrounds before downloading. Changing the strength lets you generate another result from the original upload.

Adjust image brightness with one control

The Image Brightener analyzes the photo's tones and combines that reading with your strength setting. The slider controls the effect; it is not a percentage increase in exposure.

0: preserve the source brightness

0 keeps the original brightness. The Image Brightener still creates a new file, so format or JPG/WebP quality can affect the result. Keep your source for future edits.

50: a moderate lift

Use this level to brighten image files that need a modest adjustment. The same setting can look different on different photos, so compare the result with your original.

100: apply the strongest available effect

Higher strength can help brighten dark photos with visible detail. Reduce it if shadows or skin look too light; raising the slider cannot create missing detail.

Changes appear after you click Brighten Image. Each result uses the original upload, so you can compare strengths without repeatedly editing an already brightened copy.

How the Image Brightener handles color and highlights

A useful picture brightener makes existing detail easier to see. This Image Brightener lifts lighter and darker tones smoothly while keeping the existing color proportions.

Keep black and white endpoints

Pure black stays black and pure white stays white. The brightening effect gradually reduces toward highlights, helping avoid a white haze. Review pale backgrounds and reflective surfaces.

Retain the existing color balance

The photo brightener increases color channels together to help retain existing colors. Image conversion and output compression can still introduce small differences.

Brighten image files that already contain information. Blur, scratches and completely black areas need a different edit; increasing image brightness cannot restore missing texture.

When to use a picture brightener

Use the Image Brightener to brighten dark photos with visible content. In these situations, review the subject and bright areas after processing.

Indoor and shaded photographs

Click Brighten Image to make subjects in dim rooms or heavy shade easier to see. If the background or skin looks too bright, lower the strength and process the photo again.

Product and profile pictures

A photo brightener can make products and portraits more readable. Check pale materials and skin. The Image Brightener processes your whole picture, without selecting a face or replacing the lighting.

Scans and older photographs

The picture brightener can lift a dark scan while keeping its framing and existing tint. Grain, dust and damage may become more visible, so keep the original.

For night scenes and silhouettes, lower the strength to preserve intended shadows. Check the result at the size where you will use it.

Choose your Image Brightener download

Choose a download format before you click Brighten Image. The tool keeps source resolution without cropping or resizing; automatic orientation correction can swap width and height.

PNG for transparent graphics

PNG is the default and can preserve transparency. It suits graphics and sharp edges, but a PNG download may be larger than a compressed photo source.

JPG for photographs

JPG is a widely used photo format and fills transparent areas with white. Quality choices range from 60% to 100%, with 90% selected by default; compression is lossy.

WebP for compatible websites

WebP can preserve transparency and offers the same quality choices. Check that your destination accepts it. File size depends on the picture and quality, rather than a fixed target.

Use strength for the Image Brightener effect and quality for JPG/WebP encoding. Set both before clicking Brighten Image, then review appearance and downloaded size.

Image Brightener input and processing limits

This online image brightness editor handles one JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP or TIFF per task. Maximum size is 20 MiB, with no side exceeding 8,192 pixels; browser preview support varies.

Static results from animated or multipage files

Animated or multipage inputs use the first frame or first page. The Image Brightener returns one static PNG, JPG or WebP; animation and additional pages are not retained.

Automatic correction across the image

The Image Brightener analyzes tones automatically; you adjust one strength value. Local selections, separate exposure or contrast controls, denoising and restoration are outside its scope.

Upload and server processing

Your selected file uploads to the server for processing. Source and output files are temporarily stored and regularly cleaned up. Avoid uploading pictures you need to keep entirely on your device.

The Image Brightener is free without an account. If a task fails, check the format and limits, wait if the service is busy, then submit the original again.

Image Brightener questions

Upload a supported picture, set strength, choose PNG, JPG or WebP, and click Brighten Image. This Image Brightener requires no account or paid plan; wait for processing before downloading.

Click Brighten Image and compare the result with your original. Reduce strength if shadows, skin or pale backgrounds look too light. The Image Brightener keeps pure black and white endpoints, but cannot restore missing detail.

0 keeps original brightness, 50 gives a moderate lift, and 100 is the default and strongest available effect. A setting of 50 does not mean exactly 50% more brightness. Choose a level, then click Brighten Image to see the effect.

The Image Brightener processes tones across the whole photo, without a face selection or local brush. A shaded face may become clearer, but other areas are processed too.

It makes existing content lighter. Blur, grain, scratches and dust remain, and missing detail in completely black regions cannot be recovered through brightening.

The Image Brightener download is a static image from the first frame. Multipage inputs likewise use the first page; this tool does not preserve animation or multiple pages.

PNG/WebP can retain transparency; JPG fills it with white. Source resolution is kept, though orientation can swap width and height. Format and quality affect file size.

The file uploads when selected and is processed on the server after submission. The Image Brightener uses temporary source/output storage with scheduled cleanup, rather than on-device processing.
