Open this GIF Cropper online, choose a GIF, drag the crop box and click Crop GIF. Wait for processing, then download the result. The file is uploaded for server processing; the source on your device stays unchanged.
GIF Cropper
Crop GIF online by dragging the crop frame. Keep the animation and download your cropped GIF.
Crop GIF online and keep the animation
Use this GIF Cropper online to remove empty borders, focus on a reaction or keep just the part of a screen recording that matters. Choose a rectangular area and apply it to every frame of the animation.
The GIF Cropper lets you freely adjust the crop rectangle's width-to-height ratio within the original GIF. Move the frame or drag its edges to choose the area. The selected rectangle is applied at the same position and size to every frame. Watch the original animation while choosing your crop so a moving face, hand or caption stays inside the box.
When you crop animated GIF files here, the result remains a GIF with the original frame order, recorded frame durations and loop setting. Keep your source too: the cropped result is encoded as a new file.
How to crop a GIF
Choose a GIF
Select one GIF from your device. Upload starts when you choose the file; wait for it to finish before submitting. The source must fit the 25 MB, 600-frame and 60-million-pixel limits.
Set the crop area
To crop animated GIF content, drag the frame to move it and drag the edges or corner handles to resize it. Leave room for movement across the animation. The selected rectangle is applied to all frames.
Crop GIF and download
Click Crop GIF to process the uploaded file on the server. Once processing finishes, check the completed animation and download cropped.gif. Use Change File to work on another GIF.
How to crop a GIF around a moving subject
A good GIF crop looks right during movement, not just on the first picture. Before you crop GIF content for a post or message, let the animation play through and check what crosses the edges.
Keep the subject in view
In the exported GIF, the crop area stays at the same position in every frame. If the subject moves sideways or jumps, leave enough space for its furthest position. The GIF Cropper does not follow a moving subject automatically.
Remove distracting borders
Bring the edges inward to cut away blank margins or unrelated background. Any text or object outside the rectangle is removed from every frame, so check captions before submitting.
Crop freely without scaling the content
The output width-to-height ratio follows your selection. A 200 × 200 square selected from a 400 × 300 GIF becomes a 200 × 200 GIF. The content inside is not stretched or scaled.
Leave space around fine edges
A very tight crop can cut off hair, outlines or letters as they move. Keep a small margin around the subject, then check the downloaded GIF in the place where you plan to use it.
You can use this GIF Cropper online for reaction GIFs, animated stickers and short demonstrations. Start with the important area, then widen the box wherever the motion needs extra room.
What the GIF Cropper preserves
To crop animated GIF files correctly, the tool reconstructs complete frames before cutting out the selected area. This also handles GIFs that store only the small regions that change between pictures.
Every frame in its original order
The GIF Cropper keeps all stored frames, including duplicates. The same rectangle is cut from each one, so the result stays animated when the source contains animation.
Frame timing and looping
Each frame keeps its recorded display duration, and the source loop setting is retained. Cropping the picture does not shorten the clip or change its playback speed.
Existing transparency
Transparent areas inside the crop are retained. An opaque background inside the box remains part of the picture; cropping removes content outside the box rather than separating foreground from background.
A newly encoded GIF
Colors and file size can change during GIF encoding. Check gradients, small text and outlines in the result. This GIF Cropper does not promise a lossless copy or a smaller file.
If file size is your next concern, try GIF Compressor with the cropped result when it fits that tool's limits. To inspect pictures individually, use GIF Frame Extractor to export the frames as PNG files.
Check the complete source GIF before cropping
The GIF Cropper checks the original file before applying your crop. These limits are separate: choosing a tiny area cannot make an oversized source eligible.
One GIF up to 25 MB
Choose one valid GIF file per task. Renaming a different format to .gif does not convert it, and damaged files cannot be processed.
Up to 600 stored frames
Duplicate frames count toward this limit. The number of times the GIF loops does not add stored frames. A short clip can still contain many pictures.
Up to 60 million total pixels
The calculation is original canvas width × canvas height × frame count. A 1,000 × 1,000 GIF with 60 frames reaches the limit; the same dimensions with 61 frames exceed it.
The generated GIF must also stay within 100 MB. If the original exceeds an input limit, prepare a version with smaller dimensions or fewer frames first. Reducing its byte size alone does not reduce the decoded pixel count.
GIF Cropper questions
Yes. The crop is applied to every stored frame while keeping the frame order, recorded durations and loop setting. A single-frame GIF stays still, and identical frames may show no visible movement.
Cropping changes the visible area only. The GIF Cropper keeps the timing recorded in the source; it does not remove a segment of the animation or speed it up.
The crop rectangle has the same position in every frame. A subject can move outside it later in the animation. Widen or reposition the box, watch the full motion and crop GIF content again from the original.
No. Cropping reduces canvas dimensions, but GIF encoding also affects the byte size. The output may be larger or smaller. If you need to reduce file size, compare a result from GIF Compressor.
You can remove a border or background area that lies outside the crop rectangle. Background inside the rectangle remains. Existing transparent pixels are kept; cropping does not create transparency around an object.
The full source must also fit 600 frames and 60 million pixels across all frames. A small crop does not bypass these checks. Invalid or damaged GIF files can also fail validation.
This page accepts GIF only. For MP4, MOV or WebM, use Video to GIF first and check the resulting GIF against the input limits. Use Image Cropper for static JPG, PNG or WebP images.
GIF Cropper applies your crop to every frame and outputs a GIF, keeping the animation. Image Cropper exports static PNG, JPG or WebP files. It accepts GIF input but crops only the first frame, so use GIF Cropper when you want a moving result.
