This tool outputs the reversed sequence only. It does not append the original sequence to make a forward-and-backward animation. The original loop setting controls whether and how often the reversed sequence repeats.
Reverse GIF
Play the entire GIF animation in reverse. Keep the original dimensions, each frame's duration and the loop setting, then download the reversed GIF.
Change the direction of an existing animation
Turn a falling object into a rising one, reverse a reaction or show an action being undone. This tool reverses the order of all frames, so the entire animation plays backwards.
Upload one GIF and use the reversed result for your next post or project. Keep the source as well. The output is encoded as a new GIF, so its colors and file size can change even though the dimensions stay the same.
How to reverse a GIF
Choose a GIF and finish uploading
Select one GIF from your device. Upload starts immediately; wait for it to finish before submitting. The file must be within 25 MB, 240 frames and 60 million pixels across all frames.
Reverse the full animation
Click Reverse GIF to process the upload on the server. There is no clip selection or speed setting: the complete sequence is reversed, with each frame keeping its own duration.
Preview and download the result
Watch the completed result, including pauses and the loop transition, then download reversed.gif. The preview in the upload area remains the original; use the result preview to check the backwards motion.
Frame durations move with their frames
Reversing changes the order of all the pictures together with their associated durations. To illustrate, suppose a GIF has four frames called A, B, C and D.
Original: A → B → C → D
A is displayed for 100 ms, B for 200 ms, C for 300 ms and D for 400 ms. The stored duration of one pass is 1,000 ms (1 second).
Reversed: D → C → B → A
D still lasts 400 ms, C lasts 300 ms, B lasts 200 ms and A lasts 100 ms. The longer pause moves to the beginning; the stored total remains 1,000 ms.
The middle frames, B and C, also reverse order. These timings are an illustration, not settings you enter on this page. The tool preserves the source frame count, including duplicates, and keeps the timing recorded in the file.
What stays the same, and what to check
The tool reconstructs complete frames before reversing them. This keeps backgrounds and other content in place when the source GIF stores only small areas that change between frames.
Original width and height
The output keeps the GIF canvas dimensions. It does not crop, resize, rotate or mirror the picture; it changes the playback order.
Original loop setting
A repeating source keeps its repeat setting, and a source set to play once keeps that behavior. If it loops, the reversed sequence repeats in the same reversed direction.
Existing transparency
Transparent areas are retained in the reversed animation. An opaque background remains part of the picture. Check the edges against the background where you will use the GIF.
New GIF encoding
Encoding the reversed frames can change colors and file size. Reversal is not a promise of lossless output or a smaller file. Inspect gradients, fine text and outlines before sharing.
For separate images you can inspect one by one, use GIF Frame Extractor. This page downloads an animated GIF, not a PNG sequence.
If the reversed GIF needs a smaller file size and fits the input limits, you can try GIF Compressor. Compare its result before replacing your saved copy.
Why a GIF under 25 MB can still exceed the limits
File size, frame count and decoded pixel count are checked separately. A short playback duration does not necessarily mean a small number of frames.
One GIF, up to 25 MB
The complete source file must fit the upload limit. Damaged files and files that are not actually GIFs are rejected, even if their names end in .gif.
Up to 240 stored frames
Repeated frames count toward the limit. The GIF's playback loop count does not add frames to this calculation.
Up to 60 million pixels in total
Calculate canvas width × canvas height × frame count. A 1,000 × 1,000 GIF with 60 frames reaches the limit; with 61 frames it exceeds it, despite having fewer than 240 frames.
If the source exceeds a limit, prepare a GIF with smaller dimensions or fewer frames first. This page has no resize or frame-removal controls. Reducing the file's byte size alone does not reduce its decoded pixel count.
Questions about reversing GIFs
A single-frame GIF remains still. A sequence of identical frames, or a motion that looks similar in both directions, can also show little visible difference. Check the completed result rather than the original preview in the upload area.
Reversing it again restores the frame order and the associated timing order. It does not guarantee an identical copy of the original file or undo color changes introduced by encoding. Keep the source if you need the exact original.
This page accepts GIF files only. For an MP4, MOV or WebM, you can use Video to GIF first, then reverse the resulting GIF if it fits this tool's limits. Animated WebP and APNG are not supported here.
