Upload the GIF, choose a multiplier above 1× and apply the change. Start with 2×, preview the result and try a higher value if the animation still feels too slow.
GIF Speed Changer
Speed up or slow down a GIF online for free. Choose 0.25×–4× playback, preview the result and download your GIF with its original size and transparency.
Free GIF speed changer for faster or slower playback
Use this GIF speed changer when a reaction drags on or a demonstration moves too quickly to follow. Upload one animated GIF, adjust its playback speed and download the result as a GIF.
You can speed up GIF animations to shorten a reaction, or slow down a GIF to give each action more time. The tool keeps the original dimensions, transparent areas, frame order and loop setting.
How to change GIF speed online
Choose your GIF
Select one animated GIF up to 25 MB. Upload starts when you select the file, and the conversion runs on the server.
Set the playback speed
Move the slider between 0.25× and 4×. The default is 1×; use 2× to speed up a GIF or 0.5× to slow it down.
Apply the change
Click the button to change GIF speed and wait for the task to finish. Each frame keeps its place in the animation while its display time is adjusted.
Preview and download
Check the finished GIF in the result card and download it. You can choose another speed and run a new task using the same uploaded file.
Choose a GIF speed and estimate its duration
A multiplier changes how long one complete animation cycle takes. These examples use an 8-second GIF; output times are approximate because GIF frame timing has limited precision.
0.25×
- Playback
- Quarter speed
- One cycle from an 8-second GIF
- About 32 seconds
0.5×
- Playback
- Half speed
- One cycle from an 8-second GIF
- About 16 seconds
1×
- Playback
- Original speed
- One cycle from an 8-second GIF
- 8 seconds
2×
- Playback
- Double speed
- One cycle from an 8-second GIF
- About 4 seconds
4×
- Playback
- Four times the speed
- One cycle from an 8-second GIF
- About 2 seconds
| Speed | Playback | One cycle from an 8-second GIF |
|---|---|---|
| 0.25× | Quarter speed | About 32 seconds |
| 0.5× | Half speed | About 16 seconds |
| 1× | Original speed | 8 seconds |
| 2× | Double speed | About 4 seconds |
| 4× | Four times the speed | About 2 seconds |
The multiplier changes the duration of each cycle. It preserves whether the original GIF plays once, repeats a fixed number of times or loops continuously.
Speed up GIF animations for shorter reactions
To speed up GIF playback, start at 2× and watch the result. This shortens the animation while keeping every frame, which is useful for reaction GIFs, repeated gestures and short product demonstrations.
Try 4× when the source has long pauses. Check any captions before sharing: speeding up a GIF also reduces the time viewers have to read them. If you want to change the direction of playback, reverse the GIF.
Slow down GIF playback to follow each step
To decrease GIF speed, choose 0.5× and make a cycle last about twice as long. Use 0.25× for a closer look at a gesture, a screen recording or a sequence of instructions.
Slower playback gives the existing frames more time on screen. It does not generate new in-between frames, so a GIF with very few frames may still look choppy. To change the visible area, crop the GIF separately.
What changes when you adjust GIF playback speed?
Changing animated GIF speed adjusts frame display times and keeps the picture data. The GIF speed changer preserves the original size, colors, transparent areas and frame order. At 1×, the original timing stays unchanged.
GIF timing is stored in 10-millisecond steps. For speeds other than 1×, this tool keeps output frame delays at least 20 milliseconds, so an animation whose frames are already very short may not reach the full selected speed. If the output speed differs noticeably, the result card shows a multiplier calculated from its frame timings.
Playback speed and file size are different properties. A faster GIF can have nearly the same file size because it still contains the same pictures. Use GIF compression when you want a smaller file.
GIF speed changer FAQ
Choose a multiplier below 1×. At 0.5×, a cycle lasts about twice as long; at 0.25×, it lasts about four times as long. Preview the result before downloading.
Yes. This GIF speed changer is free to use in your browser. Select a file, set its speed and download the finished GIF; the conversion itself runs on the server.
It keeps the original GIF speed and timing. Selecting 1× does not reset its frame durations or loop setting.
Very short frame delays limit how much the animation can accelerate. The tool retains every frame and keeps output delays at least 20 milliseconds. The result card reports a different achieved multiplier when needed.
The picture data is kept while frame timings change. The output retains the original dimensions, colors and existing transparent areas.
Playback speed changes by adjusting the time each existing frame stays on screen. The tool keeps the number and order of frames; it does not add intermediate frames or remove frames to force a higher speed.
Not necessarily. The output still contains the same pictures, so its file size can remain almost unchanged. Playback duration and file size are different properties.
Choose one animated GIF up to 25 MB with at least two frames. The tool supports up to 240 frames and 60 million pixels across all full-size frames. Use a smaller GIF if the task exceeds those limits.
This page downloads a GIF. To create an MP4, WebM or MOV file afterwards, upload the result to the GIF to video converter.
